NutraTek Health Innovations Inc., Raymond, AB, Canada, has added a concentrated Essential Omegas formula to its Hardy Nutritionals product line.

Essential Omegas reduces the level of non-essential fats by nearly 90% per capsule compared with its previous formula while delivering more than double the previous levels of EPA and DHA, the company said.

The EPA and DHA in the new Hardy Nutritionals Essential Omegas are concentrated from fish oils through a comprehensive distillation process that purifies them of PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) and heavy metals (such as mercury and lead) commonly found in fish oils.

“With these improvements in concentration and purity, our customers will get more of the essential omegas they need while minimizing intake of non-essential fats and contaminants,” Hardy Nutritionals founder David Hardy emphasized.

Hardy Nutritionals Essential Omegas is designed to be used in conjunction with Hardy Nutritionals Daily Essential Nutrients, a highly-specialized multi-nutrient supplement that has been formulated specifically to address mood disorders.

David Hardy introduced Daily Essential Nutrients onto the market in 2011 as an improvement on his previous formulation, EMPowerplus, which according to a recent scientific review article in BMC Psychiatry has “more published and ongoing research on [it] for mental health than on any other complex formula anywhere in the world.” Daily Essential Nutrients is currently backed by over 20 medical journal publications, including double-blind research.

“The never-before-seen results measured on our formulas will be the subject of a 3 hour presentation at the American Psychiatric Association’s annual meeting on May 20. I believe we are at the precipice of a huge paradigm shift in psychiatry,” Mr. Hardy stated.   

A multi-center double-blind study by independent researchers comparing the effectiveness of Daily Essential Nutrients and omega-3 supplements is scheduled to begin in 2016. The study will include four large groups of prison inmates, all taking identical-looking capsules without knowing whether they are active or placebo pills:

1) One quarter of the inmates will take Hardy Nutritionals Daily Essential Nutrients plus an omega-3 supplement.
2) One quarter of the inmates will take Hardy Nutritionals Daily Essential Nutrients plus placebo.
3) One quarter of the inmates will take an omega-3 supplement plus placebo.
4) One quarter of the inmates will take only placebo pills until the blinded portion of the study is complete. Then they will have the opportunity to take Hardy Nutritionals Daily Essential Nutrients plus an omega-3 supplement.
